Our Story so far
Our story started in an ashram in southern India. Born from a project with the intention of helping women from rural settings to win contracts to secure household incomes. In this case the skill set offered was to learn how to make neckties.
A business was born from the inspiration from this project, with the aim of creating an interesting perspective on neckties. The initial design stages took place in the Ashram, with further development spanning from the spare room of an apartment in Antwerp. The process began with cutting and shifting polka dot patterns. A myriad of design permutations derived from this concept, and can still be seen in the current collection.
sampling…
An early sample system was used to experiment with the designs, involving a domestic crafting cutting machine, some paints, including metallics, and around 100 plain white sample neckties.
Many successes happened through this process, and reduced down to an edited selection that were taken to a reputed British silk weaver
Once the initial design had been realised in woven silk, an experienced tie maker was sought out for manufacturing, as some experimental technical constructions would need to be played with, a feature that forms a key part in the creating process.
Finally, it would take a long time to discover a voice in colour, a crucial feature in the language of neckties.
